Afghan Kidnappings

Observe the Taliban rise it's ugly and persistent head. Earlier it was the killing of an Indian worker with the Border Roads organization and now it is the kidnapping of a telecom engineer. In between there were other kidnappings of Indian workers in Afghanistan.

We already had a disturbing experience with the Taliban in 1999 during the Indian Airlines hijacking episode. I hope the Indian agencies involved deal with the Taliban decisively and ruthlessly.

The Taliban's pro-activity in the region is very surprising. With the US forces in the region for some years now, one would think they have been completely crushed. But that doesn't seem so; with the US kept fully occupied in Iraq and Pakistan stretched by the low intensity conflict in Balochistan, the Taliban seems to be, as they say, making hay when the sun shines!
