Salwa Zudum

I came across this very interesting interview in The Hindu with a certain Mahendra Karma, who the article mentions is the key figure behind the "anti-maoist civilian initiative"! The fact that such an initiative exists itself is extremely interesting. It shows that the naxals and their outdated and unworkable ideology have opposition not only from the goverment but also from organized tribals.

Mr Karma says "people are now realizing that they have lost freedom because of their association with the naxals. They now know what they have lost and what they have regained."

He says that the parts of the Bastar region in Chattisgarh have not been surveyed so far! One would assume that after almost sixty years of independence the entire territory of India would have been thoroughly surveyed; but that does not seem to be the case. That region also happens to be the headquarters of the Communist Party of India(Maoist) in central India.

The title to this post means "Peace Rallies". Although I am not sure in which language! My best guess in that it is a language spoken by the tribals in that region of Chattisgarh.
