Powwaqatsi

That word has an interesting meaning. But before I get to the meaning, I should tell you that it is the title of a documentary I saw yesterday. That's how I came across that strange word! The end credits in the documentary explains that the word, in the Hopi language, means..."a way of life that consumes the life forces of other beings in order to further its own life"

The doumentary is essentially a smooth and seamless flow of images of men, women and children working or engaged in other daily activities. Almost half of the images are from India and the remaining are from countries as diverse as Peru and Egypt. The entire one and a half hour documentary is a photographic feast to the eyes! Music composed by Philip Glass complements the visual images and makes them so much more interesting. It is a true feast of sight and sound and it truly is breathtaking!
